After tonight's game with Carp getting win #20 and Clemens dropping back(for clemen's that is) + injured hamstring, I think it's safe to assume the Card's Ace as the man to win it.
Carpenter 213IP 20-4 191K's 2.28 era
Clemens 189.1IP 11-6 169K's 1.57 era
My only question is does era have that much weight on it to make up for Clemens' other stats?
Either way IMO Carpenter, barring a meltdown in last few starts, has a big lead over Clemens in the NL Cy Young race.
I think Carp will win it, but right now he doesn't deserve it over Clemens.
My apologies. I have a nephew named Anfernee, and I know how mad he gets when I call him Anthony. Almost as mad as I get when I think about the fact that my sister named him Anfernee.

Other then record, it's not a big lead. Clemens will get some 1st place votes. Clemens still leads in Win Shares and VORP. 20 wins will sway alot of writers, so Carpenter has a good shot, but imo Clemens still has been better.

I think the race is still close, but I would give the edge to Carp. What puts him over the top is the fact he has 30 more innings pitched than Clemens, which translates into 7 complete games while Clemens only has 1 complete game.
Complete games are extremely underrated given that they allow a team to rest their entire bullpen for the night. Plus, I think that the fact that Clemens hasn't pitched deep into games has been reflected in his win total. Yes, he has been excellent when he has pitched, but if he were able to pitch deeper into games he might have been able to earn a few more wins.
I think that the extra complete games and the wins give Carp the Cy Young over Clemens.
But there is still a month of ball to be played...
I wouldn't be angry if either won. Carpenter has been straight up b-a-n-a-n-a-s the last few months though. What a steal he was in double digit rounds because people were worried about his bicep.
