What are you doing with Livan?

Postby orange12 » Sat Sep 03, 2005 4:50 am

Just curious to see what other Livan Hernandez owners are doing with the struggling ace. This guy was pretty solid in May and June but August has been brutal. (6.69 ERA, 2.00WHIP, .367BAA) I keep hearing he's pitching with a bum knee and maybe its finally caught up to him. Even when he pitched semi-effective like the last outing against the Braves, his WHIP makes him unusable. Is anyone still starting him everyday? Or are you picking and choosing his matchups? Has anyone outright dropped him? I've yet to see Livan on FA in both of my public leagues so I figure I definitely shouldn't drop him in my NL only team. But damn, he needs to turn it around.

I have dropped him in one league. It looks like I'll be close to maxing out my innings, and my other starters are Oswalt, Schmidt, Carpenter, King Felix, and Hudson.

Since I was lucky enough to get Felix, he basically replaced Livan in my rotation. Used the spot to pick up Barmes to add to my bench.

im in a 15-team league with 28-player rosters and i dropped him 3 days ago after the atlanta start :-P

i'm in first in W's, K's, and ERA but have only 4 points in WHIP, so he was doing nothing but hurting me for a long while anyway. i still have schmidt, zambrano, and f.hernandez, so my team is better for it

I just checked his possible starts for the remainder of the season and it looks like:

FLA (season splits: 4GS 1-1 3.10ERA/1.38WHIP/2.77BAA)
ATL (2GS 0-0 2.35/1.30/.263)
@ SD (none this season, career split: 8-1 3.29/1.31/.252)
NYM (4GS 2-1 6.38/1.71/.333)
@FLA
maybe one more against the Phillies on short rest should Washington still be in the playoff hunt but season's end.

He's been mostly effective against the Braves and Marlins but terrible against the Mets. San Diego might be the soft matchup to jump on.

The only problem with looking at his history vs upcoming opponents was that he was pitching well then, but has been bad against everyone lately. Even when he wonn a few weeks ago, he gave up several runs and had a high WHIP. So don't look at his record past 6 weeks or so because he's not the same pitcher.

I dropped this guy 2 weeks ago I think. He doesn't get Ks, he has high whip, he won't get wins with that offense...see no point of having this "ace" on your team.
