I'm not gonna worry until one start becomes two, and two becomes three...
It sucks his elbow is acting up, but I'm optimistic a little bit of rest will do him some good. Hopefully, we'll only need him for another two months, and then he'll have all offseason to recover.
Mike Mussina visited Dr. Lewis Yocum, who confirmed the diagnosis of tendinitis in the right-hander's elbow. It's uncertain when Mussina will pitch again. It's possible that he'll be back within two weeks, but that all depends on how he feels when he resumes throwing. ''We'll wait until it starts feeling good and go from there,'' manager Joe Torre said. ''There's no timetable. Without him feeling good to go and pitch on a regular basis, he's not going to help the team. It's strictly up to Mike. If his elbow starts feeling well enough to do something, we'll go from there. This is the time of year you go from start to start.''

If Moose is out for the year. Our SP rotation for the playoffs will be:
Johnson Chacon Wright Small Leiter ??? Wang ???
No Moose no Pavano. It's going to be tough this year.
I guess you could consider updating your reaction to Wang. He was solid last night. If the playoffs happen, I have no problem with Wang in the rotation and sending Chacon the pen.

No way should they send Chacon to the pen over Wang. That's not an easy choice, but Chacon has been nothing short of incredible (at least, considering how low expectations were...that guy is a keeper! )
If Moose comes back and pitches well later this week like they're saying? You'd have RJ, Moose, Chacon, Wang, Wright and Small. I guess they'd make Small the odd man out...

Agreed...sort of. There's no way you pitch Wang over Chacon. His last game proves that.
When they make the playoffs, RJ, Moose, Chacon, Small is my rotation choice.
Only thing is...Chacon's pitched out of the pen before and could be a dominant 7th inning man, allowing them to move Sturtze down to the 6th if needed. That's the only reason I see that he could end up there.

Exactly why I like Chacon in the pen--because of his flexibility. He can do short relief, long relief or an emergency start.
