It depends upon the police dept.
Realize that each and every incorpotated city is resposible for its own policing. Some of them sub contract out to the Sheriffs dept, but for the most part they are all separate.

some cities .. and I know this first hand, just write the tickets off of the books after a while. Especially if the offender is from out of state. Its not worth chasing around somebody for 100.00, especially if they are from out of state.

consider your self lucky though.
Some states dont have restitution, so if you got caught, they make you pay the ticket immed.

I also know this first hand too, as I was once doing 120 mph going thru Western Texas when I was caught. Since I had a California License they made me pay the ticket on the spot. the cop followed me over to the Magistrate where I plead quilty and paid 350.00.

That sucked.
the cop was laughing at me too, cus I had a radar detector.
He said to me.
"Hey Boy, just so you know, we don't need Radar when you are going 120" and then laughed his ass off on the way back to the car.

And I don't want to pay these tickets yet. I'm finally making a little money and can afford such luxuries as food and shelter. I'd rather spend the money on fixing my brakes and the like. Do you all think I can put this off for another year - or at least until I get my tax refund?

i would guess you wouldnt run into any big problem. i think the worst that would happen is you have to pay the tickets plus a late fee. if you move back to any of those states then expect to the tickets. also, in times of a budget crunch the cities/counties whatever will get a little more active in collecting unpaid tickets. they may hire a collection agency or something like that. when i was in college i had some medical expenses that i thought were all covered by insurance. apparently it wasnt completely covered. there was on bill that i dont ever remember seeing but four years later a collection agency finally found me and demanded i pay them three dollars and some change.

Not only hasn't it gone up - it's actually gone down. Which is why I'm wondering if there is any point in paying these now - especially the older ones, for instance the one from Indiana in 97 or the one from New York in 99. Is there some point where I just get off without having to pay?
