PHOENIX -- Brett Myers had posted a 5-1 mark over his previous eight games, but even he understands when a hit is more important than a pitcher's psyche.
"We've got to do what we need to do to win games," said Myers, who was lifted after only four innings and 84 pitches for a pinch-hitter just before the Phillies' bats came alive for an 11-3 victory over struggling Arizona in the first of a three-game set at Bank One Ballpark.
Manager Charlie Manuel pulled Myers for pinch-hitter Ramon Martinez with runners on the corners and one out and the Phils trailing, 3-1, in the fifth. Martinez delivered a sacrifice fly to trim the lead.
Myers was finished for the night, and the offense took over from there.
