Matt Lawton to Yankees?

Hmmm. ...So how exactly did Lwton clear waivers? You would have thought Boston or Houston or someone would have claimed him if for no other reason than to block.

Because I doubt the Cubs would have pulled him back off waivers, meaning they would have to take him and pay him.

From Boston's standpoint, they certainly don't need Lawton for their OF, so he'd be useless to them.

And while I do feel it's a slight upgrade to the Yanks lineup, it's not like he's the difference maker that gets them to the post season. Their problem has been, and remains, pitching. Ditto for the Red Sox, by the way.

Matt Lawton's VORP this season is 24.6...higher than Mike Cameron, Jermaine Dye, Aubrey Huff, Jacque Jones, Garret Anderson, Carlos Beltran, and much higher than Bernie Williams'. He also ranks 22nd for NL outfielders in Win Shares.

To put it short: he's a good acquisition and does belong in the Yankees lineup.
