Six years after Latin American players were shut out from baseball's All-Century Team, the sport launched a promotion Tuesday to select a "Latino Legends Team."
Acknowledging the increased influence of its Spanish-speaking players and audience, baseball will conduct fan balloting from Aug. 29 through Oct. 10 and announce the winners before Game 4 of the World Series.
I think the Latino influx of players and acknowledging the great ones is great for baseball but is making an 'All-Latino' team in the style of the 'All-Century' team necessary?

This is absolutely retarded. If there's an all-Latino team, why don't we have an all black team and an all-white team? Of course they would never, ever have an all-white team now; just a huge double-standard
Secondly, what about players like Jeter who don't fit any basic category?
The need to make race an issue in everything is simply sickening.
Its the All-TIME team; race, height, weight, hair color, none of these things should matter
It is probably not necessary but baseball is a business and I understand the PR move. In the end run it doesn't really mean much to us and it will probably be very exciting for Latinos especially those living outside the U.S.
