Thoughts on Escobar? Seems like he made a nice transition from Closer to starter. Worth taking a fly on? Too risky?

Too risky... He had a stint as a starter earlier in his career, and didn't do too well, just an average pitcher. He's a flamethrower with incredible stuff, but he's always been a head case. He could never handle the pressure of the closer role, even though he was lights-out as a setup man. He also used to have an unknown medical problem with his hand that would cause it to go numb after 5-6 innings, although I haven't heard anything more about that since he regained a spot in the rotation.

Escobar has always been streaky to an extreme. He will go through stretches where he is totally lights out and unhittable, but will also go through stretches where he stinks it up totally and is basically unusable. His problem has always been that he loses concentration on the mound and gets himself into trouble.

If he has finally put it all together, he could well be a lights out breakout star in the rotation. I doubt that he has just yet though, but it wouldn't hurt to pick him up and ride him while he's hot. As soon as he starts falling apart though, you'll want to cut bait. As a starter in his career before this year, he has an ERA over 5.00

He's not for me. That last start was a dandy. Gave up 12 hits and some rockets that got caught. Escobar is a train wreck waiting to happen.

He has his next 2 starts against Baltimore, I picked him up for those. I'll give him a go.

I agree with jdh. I don't think he has turned it around permanently, but when he is throwing well, he can be dominant. I'm willing to throw him out there for now.

There's alot of upside, but at a risk of course. Adding him depends on who you would be dropping.
