"Al Leiter is scheduled to make his eight start for the Yankees tonight against Toronot, but has volunteered for other duties besides his current role. Torre said Leiter has told him he will go to the bullpen if necessary with the Yankees hopeful Wang can retrun next month and with Small a candidate to move from the pen to the rotation."
Wang will throw BP today.
-The Star Ledger
This to me sounds like tonight's start is his last chance. If he can't pitch an effective 6 innings, I'd imagine this would bring Small back to the rotation. Or at least I can hope.
What might actually make the most sense, although its highly unlikely is to have a rotation of Moose, Chacon, Small, Wright and Wang when he's back. Put Randy in the bullpen to give them a dominant lefty in the pen and allow them to get rid of Embree. I'd certainly give Randy another start first though, as he was great in 7 of the 8 innings last start, but if he has problems, he sadly could be more useful in the bullpen.
