I would go to USC if it weren't for the $35,000 a semester it would cost me.
I am a Broadcast Journalism major (which I think you are) and I as well want to focus on sports. I might change to a Public Relations major though.
First of all, their communications program is good. I know many people in the program and the ones who have graduated have good jobs.
I know one kid who graduated (he was more interested in sports reporting/production) and he has a job working in San Diego right now for a prominent Sports radio station.
About the area outside of the school, it isn't as bad as people make it out to be. The police do a great job covering the area so the students feel safe and there really aren't any problems. The area may not look pleasent to the eyes, but the area is pretty safe. The campus is beautiful.
BTW, you mention Hollywood as if its a nice place. For those of you not around LA, Hollywood is a sh!thole. There are maybe a couple of blocks that are nice, the rest is a dump.
holy crap! is it really $35,000 a semester now? when i went there it was about 25 K a year. i saved quite a bit of money living at home. their incomming freshmens have sat's and gpa's scores comparable to cal berkley. annenberg is an excellent communications school and i'll say it's the best in the west coast. as for the campus being in the heart of south central LA, i thought it was dangerous. during the day was fine but at night...it could get hairy.
DAQ, one thing you should consider is alumni connections. A place like USC is one of the best places in the world to have connections. I would go out on a limb and say maybe only Stanford, Harvard and Princeton would compete with USC in the connections you can get.

USC prides itself on helping a fellow Trojan out.
this is the absolute truth!! they're extremely helpful at securing interviews for you and recruiters are always on campus looking for fresh talent!!
btw the immediate area around sc is cool. however 3 or 4 blocks from campus is somewhere i wouldn't go after the sun sets.
