Is Mariano Rivera a good enough reason
5 wins 33 saves 1.79 ERA and .79 Whip over 60 innings gives you one helluva an advantage.
In roto leagues a stud closer can damn near when you a league so 1 dominant closer in the 4th or 5th round is by no means a luxury. Especially a K guy like Lidge or K-Rod and especially if the league you're playing in is competitive.
If it is then there's no way you can accumulate all those waiver wire closers. They get spread around.

That's exactly it. If have a massive roster of WW closers either:
a) You got really lucky or
b) Your league is not very competitive.
WW closers also carry a downside. See Matt Herges 2004 or Mark Bruney 2005.

I realize this is a minority consideration, but it doesn't pay to sit back in a holds league, either. A large number of these replacement closers come from the ranks of set-up guys, who were drafted for holds in my 14-team H2H.
(example: I wasted my fifth-round pick on Mota ... when he got hurt, I couldn't go after Jones, cuz another guy had drafted him for holds). The exception was Fuentes ... nobody wants Rockies set-up guys.
