Has anyone noticed how well Jason Vargas of Florida has been doing since turning into a starter this month? He just pitched his first career complete game against the dodgers today. Anyone think he can follow in the footsteps of Burnett and Burkett (minus the chronic injuries) and become that damn good young pitcher out of florida you have to draft?

What's stunning is how quickly he's risen. I didn't figure Vargas to be big league ready till 2007, or at least late '06.
Long Beach is a machine

Yeah, I noticed. I picked him up a while ago for nothing and have been happy with his production so far. I think he's one of the best young fireballers in the game. Still needs to work on some more control, but he's got nasty stuff. I don't think his ceiling is as high as King Felix, but I like him more than Duke and a number of other young pitchers who have been getting more press.
I am the Master. Don't question the Master. Just do what he says and be proud.

I know dropping Livan Hernandez would sound like heresy given the year he's had but at this point I may drop him for Vargas...Kid looks great and this is no time for patience.

I have Livan and the only thing he gives now is low ERA (I guess, seems like he gives a lot of ER every other start), he has high WHIP, he gets like 2-3Ks and he plays for the horrible Nationals offense...he won't be getting as many wins as he got in the first half. So I don't see the point of having him, so I think I am going to drop him fo Chacon/Santana/Vargas.

It's done. I picked up Vargas for Livan and I'm not at all sorry I did it. In fact, I hope the guy ahead of me picks him up and he sabotages his team.
