Tony Clark?

Why doesn't this guy play everyday for the dbacks? He has 22 homers and 66 RBI in 246AB while batting .316. Projecting that out over a mere 500AB yields 45 homers and 134RBI.

well, they did give him a contract extension. must be something about the BOB that reverted him to his late 90s form.

Tony hasn't been an everyday player since 99.
If you found my advice helpful, please help me

I remember him well from his days as a Tiger. He had a 4 year run there where he was among the top offensive 1B in all of baseball and a real rising star, including his rookie year where he could have been rookie of the year had he not had such competition that season. Then in 2000, injuries hit him and he hasn't been quite the same since. He's shown flashes of the power over the past few years putting up decent totals in limited ABs, so the power he's shown isn't all that surprising. It's the batting average that is astounding. I'm happy that he's finally having another good year. He was a very likable guy.

Why doesn't he play everyday anymore? He's getting up there in age, probably wouldn't hold up health-wise, and their other options at 1B aren't exactly too bad. Chad Tracy has had a decent enough season offensively and spent a portion of the year platooning with Clark, but now the Diamondbacks 1B of the future Conor Jackson is up getting in some occasional work. Despite his great season, Clark may or may not end up backing Jackson up next year.

His def isnt top notch and his health prevent him from playing day to day. He was tremendous before the injury, no doubt about that, but since the injury, he prolly can only start half the time and pitch hit the other half.

Tony Clark is one of the players that i think will be a manager someday. A real smart guy if you ever hear him in interviews. Isn't he/wasn't he the players union rep?

Weird thing is last year, Clark had one of the SLOWESTTTTT bats around. You could simply throw the fastball right by him. I have no idea what this guy has changed for thi skind of turnaround. It has to be more than spot duty based on matchup for this sort of improvement.
