I've benefited greatly by having Duke in two of my leagues. It seems that teams that grabbed him have really stepped it up. For many good teams, he's like icing on the cake.
Sweeeeeet!
I watched his game last night and here's what I saw...
Kid has a great curveball, best lefty curve this side of Barry Zito. He throws it on any count, can control it for a strike, and can get it off the plate as a strikeout pitch.
His fastball is low 90's when it needs to be. Good control of it. Sometimes it moves like a slider almost, which I don't think he throws.
I think he threw a changeup last night, or some sort of offspeed junk pitch that looked like a fastball but was a little slower and moved like a bastard.
He made batters look uncomfortable, confused, and downright silly on some instances.
He's confident, in complete control, he's economical, and has a good combination of being a nibbler and good command of the strikezone. Almost like Glavine in a way. Never too much of the plate but never misses too often.
Only time he struggled was in the 7th when he had some trouble with his control because he was clearly tiring. Other than that I was extremely impressed. The kid has a bright, bright future.
Is it just me or can I not find Zack Duke on CBSSportsline's site under player rankings for starting pitchers? I must have scrolled thru the entire list 4 times.

Maybe you looked through available starting pitchers and he's already owned?!?
Interesting little tidbit on Duke from Fanball.com:
While Duke has been a great story in the second half of the season, there are rumors that the Pirates may protect their prized arm and shut him down for the season. No definitive plans have been made as of yet, but given that and the fact that Duke's a finesse pitcher, not an overpowering type, it may be time to sell high in anticipation of the league catching up with him.

Hrm, well maybe if they shut down Duke, he can tutor Oliver Perez. Maybe show him some fundamentals....some basic mechanics....
