Help! Struggling in standings (Will help yours)

I'm becoming extremely frustrated with how my team has been doing. I've been in third place since the end of April and have not been able to budge since! Every one else around me seems to be flipping places left and right, but I stay in third. I guess you can say that my team is consistent, if anything. But consistently in third place is just not good enough.

The stats that I've just been dying in are HR's, RBI's, AVG, and WHIP. I'm second to last in all but WHIP, which I'm dead last in. I'm first in SB's, W's, and second in SV's and ERA. I've posted below the points for my league in the stats. Please take a look and can you please tell me if I have any hope of going up, what should I focus on saving, etc?

Any advice, strategy, things to look out for, players to look out for on the wires would help. I feel like I've been making the right changes with what's available, but it's not helping much. And I've tried trades, but nobody in my league wants to trade (and why would you with a five team league?).

One strategy I have employed is making daily cuts and adds to my starting pitchers according to who's playing for that given day. The only pitchers I don't cut are Dontrell Willis, Roy Oswalt, Felix Hernandez, and Jae Seo (either because of the can't cut list or because they're studs). This strategy has helped tremendously with my K's and ERA, but I feel has killed me in my WHIP. As far as RP's go, I make minor tweaks and adjustments as I feel necessary. Same with the rest of my lineup.

So if you could offer anything, I would appreciate it. Thanks!!________________________________________________________

What are the point totals? I'm too lazy to figure it out. :-) It looks like you're OK with W and K and you can make up the most ground with ERA/WHIP. I might go back to being selective concentrating on those categories.

You got Felix Hernandez. You will move up. ;-D

Seriously, you should. Nomar's back, so you should get a power boost from him. Helton's starting to hit now as well, and if you start your pitchers right, you should get some more help. I'd look to replace Piniero though, he's not the most consistent of the bunch.[/b]

How does this scoring work? Some cats are 2-3-4-5 another is 1-2-4-5? Not sure I understand.

Ok, sorry about the confusion. So I'm in a roto league with 5 teams and points are accumulated in these catergories: R HR RBI SB AVG W SV K ERA WHIP. So that's what the "Overall Stats" chart is, these are the actual numbers:

Overall Stats

__|galaxyHIT|Reigning Champ|MY TEAM|StifflyStiffersons|ymmas|
R............669............655..............632................559..................233
HR..........180............192..............166................175..................48
RBI.........631............641..............582................611..................205
SB..........113............62................119................36....................30
AVG........296...........290..............283................275..................286
W............44..............70................90.................82....................17
SV...........95..............59...............79..................61....................17
K............628............928..............883................964..................300
ERA........3.26...........3.48.............3.44...............3.68.................3.51
WHIP.....1.17...........1.18.............1.28...............1.21.................1.21

Then points are given according your standings in each satistical catergory. 5 points given to the leader of said stat. cat. and 1 point given to the worst:

Overall Points

__|galaxyHIT|Reigning Champ|MY TEAM|StifflyStiffersons|
R............5..................4.....................3.....................2
HR..........4..................5.....................2.....................3
RBI.........4..................5.....................2.....................3
SB..........4..................3......................5.....................2
AVG........5..................4.....................2.....................1
W............2.................3......................5.....................4
SV...........5.................2......................4.....................3
K............2..................4......................3.....................5
ERA........5..................3......................4....................1
WHIP.....4.5..............4.5....................1....................2.5

TOTAL...40.5..............37.5................31....................26.5

So in my instance, I lead in the SB's with 119 Stolen Bases, so I'm given 5 points for that stat. But I have the worst WHIP with 1.28, so I'm given 1 point for that cat. Then those points are totalled and that's how our standing in the league is determined. So I'm in 3rd place right now with an overall 31 points, and the first place team (galaxyHIT) is in first place with 40.5 points

I think this is what you guys are asking for. I hope this answers your questions, and then I hope you can give me some sound advice. THANKS A LOT!!

There is a team missing in the points grid that was what had confused me. :*)

I'll look at it a little closer later but just off hand it looks like you are going to have trouble making up those 9 points this late in the season. :-/

Agree with Amazin that those points will be tough to make up. Not impossible but really tough.

Just hope that your guys go on tears because to be honest I don't know of anyone on any ww that is going to help at this point and I am assuming your trade deadline has come and gone.

One question though is this a keeper league or a one time shot?
