FRANCO to close in new york

Postby benjapage » Sun Jun 15, 2003 12:24 am

from cbs:

"John Franco might get to close games for the Mets if Armando Benitez gets traded as rumored. "He would be one of the guys getting the chance if something did happen," Mets manager Art Howe told the New York Daily News."

he's definitely out there, and i'd say the moment you hear benitez's move...BAM! go get 'im.

yeah, yes...

Of course!!! The Mets are going nowehere this year (and I say that as a DIE HARD Mets fan). At least let Franco get closer to Lee Smith's saves record.

Why wouldn't they want to see what is in the system for next year. This is why NYM are so messed up in the first place. Why not trade Franco to the NYY? They need a setup. they could maybe grab a prospect. I'll never understand New York Baseball. Why groom what we can just buy.

The Yanks farm system is actually in rough shape right now. What few good prospects they have left are hurt right now. They might end up trading Weaver because of the their farm situation. I'm sure Franco will get a few saves when Benitez is traded, but I would have to think a few other guys will get a chance to save some games as well.

The thought of Franco being a closer doesn't really get me too excited. When you're desperate for saves in fantasy baseball, I guess you sometimes have to jump all over these iffy situations.
