yankees go for grissom?

Postby sheffield81 » Fri Aug 12, 2005 2:47 pm

The Giants released CF Marquis Grissom after designating him for assignment and not making a move by day 10. could this be a pick-up for the yankees. he would be a good guy to play right field for sheffield some days too. He has speed, a gun, and a bat.

C'mon the Yankees took a chance on Hideo Nomo! I think they will pick up ANYONE if they think he even has a remote chance of helping them. I think Grissom would be a decent gamble and the Yankees should jump on it. He played well the previous two years for the Giants but has not been healthy all year. He has just come back off the DL when the Giants designated him for assignment.

I don't know much about his defense other than that he can play centerfield and probably better than Bernie even being 37, but who knows. He's been decent with the bat for the last couple of years with 20HR/80RBI type seasons, but I think we'd be fooling ourselves with that horrid OBP and batting average drop. He may be an alright bat for the bench with Ruben missing though and like I said, I think it kind of depends on the D, which I'm not all that familar with over his last few years getting older.

I don't know much about him either, but his numbers are that much better than Bernies. I realize I'm comparing across leagues and there really aren't good quick fielding metrics but this is the best I could come up with.
