The Yankees announced during the eighth inning of today's game with the White Sox that Carl Pavano, who has been out since June 27, will be shut down for "a minimum of six weeks" with rotator cuff tendinitis and "associated humerus pain."
Since the regular season ends on Oct. 2, it would take a small miracle for Pavano to pitch again in 2005. The righthander, who signed a four-year, $39.95-million contract as a free agent in the offseason, thus would finish his first Yankee season 4-6 with a 4.77 ERA in 17 starts.
Just FYI
