Those on both sides of the Native American mascot issue still don’t get the crux of the matter. At least when it comes to Florida State’s case. The Seminoles name and mascot is not offensive to actual Seminole Indians because it trivializes and mimics the tribe’s history and plight. It is offensive because by being associated with Florida State’s football team, most people immediately associate the word “Seminole” with negative things like robbery, assault and rape. The Seminole Indians may have been a warlike tribe, but they were never as violent and lawless as Florida State’s football team, and it is a disservice that they are linked to it.[/img]
