If it's short for Oakland Athletics Baseball Club the short form should be "Oakland As" without an apostrophe.
I'm sure they didn't want t be confused with the adverb "as." And it just looks too much like the word "ass." Hey maybe that's why one of their past owners changed the mascot to a donkey. Even though the "Oakland Asses" has a nice ring to it, I don't think the MLB would approve of it.
Nice touch, giving us the link to the french version website. And, as would be expected with a montreal website, it took me 10 tries to get the link to the english version to work. However, that website is just a quick history of how this guy Pierre Deschesnes became Youppi. It doesn't give any possible explaination as to where Youppi came from or what hallucinogenic drugs the people who invented him were on.

It's Montreal, I'm just happy their mascot isn't a mime.
and for wr
Les détestables: Tim Wallach et Spike Owen pour les Expos en plus de Barry Bonds, Georges Bell et Tom Lasorda.
Just had a short story to share:
I went to a preseason A's game on what turned out to be M.C. Hammer's birthday. I'm sure you all know he got his nickname as a batboy for the A's who resembler Hank Aaron. Anyway, here's the punchline: before the game started, they showed him in his Box, and then he proceeded to have a dance-off with the elephant who was standing on a dugout. Watching Hammer have a danceoff during a preseason game, with an elephant, on his birthday? Priceless.
