Pure speculation here as I haven't seen any legit news...

He blew the save with a HR in 1.2ip the day before. He threw 20 pitches and gave up 2 hits and 1 er...certainly not a terrible outing other than the fact that the hr lost the game for them.

Maybe they were resting him due to the 1.2ip the day before.
Maybe they didn't like the matchups.
Maybe Trammel is ticked off and didn't want Rodney on the mound.
Maybe Rodney isn't the closer anymore.

Barring any news articles I'm willing to assume it's the first idea I've listed - that they just wanted to rest him. You can bet I'll be keeping a CLOSE eye on things though.

I think that they just wanted to rest him. That compounded with the fact that they probably didn't want to burn everyone in their bullpen on just the one game, and as I recall he may have been the only guy they didn't use. They may have been saving him in case it went further, too. I would be inclined to think he's still the closer, but I'm not the Detroit manager, so what do I know?

That statement is correct assuming that the announcers for FSN Detroit were correct in saying the same thing.

Rodney is the closer for the rest of the season.. He wasn't going to pitch last night reguardless of the situation.

Tram has a hard enough time managing to tie his shoes correctly. I could just imagine how he would struggle with a closer by committee situation!!

Rodney is the man for the rest of the season unless he really stinks it up.
