I'll be watching quite intently cause I have him in my minor leagues.

Plus chances are he is going to start in the rotation next year.

Am I the only one getting excited about this? It's starting to look like their Achilles heel last season is going to be at least an asset in the future with Carp, Mulder, Morris, Reyes, and maybe Wainright. And I don't think it'd be too much of an overstatement to say they could very well end up carrying the team once Sanders and Walker are (presumably) done in a couple of years and Edmonds starts to slow down. I know they'll still have Pujols, Rolen, Yadi (though the jury is still out on him if I'm being completely honest) and the others, but I think last year was the high water mark in terms of the offense being the juggernaut it was.

Of course if Reyes goes out and coughs up 5 ER in 3 innings tonight I may be changing my tune a little. :-b

I'm very excited to see how he does. Mostly cause I expect Reyes, Wainright or both in the rotation next year. Morris and Suppan are both free agents after this year. I don't see the Cards matching the kind of money Morris can get on the open market.

As for the offense it isn't going anywhere. Pujols and Rolen are locked up long term. Edmonds and Eckstein are signed for a few years as well. Yadi is never going to be an offensive force. I bet Walker retires WS or not. Sanders is a FA. Hopefully he comes back but who knows. Grudz is a FA and is likely in for a big raise.

btw - The pitching wasn't an Achilles heel last year. They lead the NL in most categories. The entire team ran out of steam in the WS.

i am excited. i am going to predict just an average performance--3er in 5ip with 4k.

we have an option on suppan for next year. if we bring back morris i could see the cards exercising the option on soup and trading marquis and/or wainwright for an outfielder. then we have carp, mulder, morris, reyes, and soup in 2006.

First inning looked great after that first pitch that almost wound up in the dugout. :-D

The strike zone was a little generous, but he went after most of them and was anywhere from 75-96 on the gun. :-)

True. I don't guess I really meant it quite like it sounded, more that it was the weak link when you compared it to the offense, defense, and bullpen.
