In the absence of any news I'm assuming it's still Rodney's job. They stuck with the LHP at the beginning of the inning to face a lefty and a switch hitter that hits better left handed. When one of those guys reached base they brought in Dingman who had been warming up more recently than Rodney. I'm hoping it's just a day of rest after pitching 1.2 innings the day before but any Rodney owners (or people in need of saves) need to keep a close eye on this one.

Dingman is no threat to Rodney's closer role. Rodney was just getting a day off after throwing something like 25-30 pitches the night before.

It was actually only 20 pitches (15 of them strikes) but 1.2 innings for those pitches and 2 hits (one the hr in the 8th and the other a hit in the 9th). I agree with your other comment though. It does make you wonder a bit though...20 pitches isn't really a ton so other Tigers guys may get saves after longer outings from Rodney in the future.

This is also a guy who was the closer entering the 2004 season, and then was lost for the year due to arm problems. They are going to be careful with him.
