Lyon should be back as early as next week, and with the teams recent closing problems should be getting the ball at the end of the games. The job will be his to loose.
Foulke wants to start closing without a AAA rehab stint. It sounds like he'll be back in a couple weeks. I'd be more cautious about picking him up, altough IF he pitches well, will get more save opps then Lyon.
Personally, I'm going with Lyon.

Yahoo is reporting that the diamond backs closing job is up for grabs when lyon returns, and velverde is the safest bet.

So far this year Valverde has 3 saves, 2 blown saves, and 3 losses. I'm not sure how much faith I have in Yahoo's prediction

Any new news? I am in the same boat here. I know Lyon pitched horribly against the Braves yesterday.....

Isn't that a shame.. hah.

So in the other thread where you said I should drop Farnsworth and pick up Lyon, you think Reitsma's hold on the closers job is firm?

I think Reitsman will be the closer, no doubt.

It was Lyon's 1st game back, Im sure it was just rust.

I would not hold onto Kyle if I were you, he will not be the closer in Atlanta

Lyon pitched very well in his rehab assignments. I wouldn't put too much stock in that one game. Besides, Atlanta can light anyone up.

Valverde has been great. He has a 2.82 ERA , 1.23 WHIP and 55 Ks in 44+ innings for the year.

Also over the last month he has been unhittable with a 0.61 ERA, 0.89 WHIP, and 22 Ks in 14+ innings.

If anyone is going to be closing in Arizona this is the guy. Why force Lyon back into the role when Valverde is pitching lights out?

Gotta agree with clark here^ ...

Valverde's struggles came early in the year when he was coming back from his own injury. The last five weeks he's been back in '03 form, which is just about as filthy as any reliever in the majors right now. (The main problem is the 'backs have stopped winning altogether, thereby negating save opps).
The way Lyon's getting kicked around, he's not helping his cause. I'm about thisclose to dropping him.
