Felix Hernandez scouting report?

Postby Mills13 » Thu Aug 04, 2005 1:01 pm

Anyone from Seattle want to share a scouting report after the game on how the prized 19 year old did? Please make it fairly detailed if you do.

-Has both 4 and 2 seam FB's, sit mid 90's and can hit upper 90's with the 4 seam ... 2 seam isn't as hard.

-Great sharp breaking power curve. Doesn't usually have the big break up, but just breaks downward when it gets to the plate.

-Very good change up foor his age, at times is his 3rd plus pitch. It has very good movement down and away on it.

-Induces a lot of ground balls for a power pitcher.

-Can have trouble with his command when his mechanics get out of whack or when he tries to keep throwing harder.

Doesn't he have this amazing slider that the Mariners won't let him use?

Don't want to talk about him too much, just incase I don't get him :-o

Felix has all the tools but I think that he will have serious problems from time to time with his command.

I would like to have seen him finish out the year at AAA and continue to work on getting the BBs down. Then see how he does in 06 ST to determine when to call him up.

MLB is not the best place to learn to get your command worked out especially for a poor team like the M's. I think he will struggle more often than not in the near future if he stays up at this level. Just my opinion.
