The only way Kim becomes the closer is if Boston gets another starting pitcher. I heard rumors that Chuck Finley had a workout with them. So if they get another SP and Wakefield and Fossum come back from their injuries then Kim will probably be the closer, but until then he will keep starting. I think BK has more value as a closer because he qualifies as a SP and RP. If your league only allows you to play 2 or 3 RP at a time you can keep BK in as a SP and get extra saves that way.
Kim was going to move to the pen when Pedro came back, but with Fossum's injury he will stay in the rotation. There have been talks of Uggy coming back to Boston, so that would leave Kim in the rotation, probably putting Burkett in the pen. And actually I think Kim's strength is his versatility. The potential of him starting one week and closing the next is actually very intriguing.
I hope he closes, but I don't think he will. Boston's starters are too shaky right now. And I don't think he is a great starter, either. I actually dropped him for Dontrelle Willis last night.
With Boston's starting pitching, I don't think Kim will be in the bullpen anytime soon.
Yes doctor, I am sick. Sick of those who are spineless. Sick of those who feel self-entitled. Sick of those who are hypocrites. Yes doctor, an army is forming. Yes doctor, there will be a war. Yes doctor, there will be blood.....
As stated above, I see him staying in the rotation although I think fantasy wise, his value would go up as a closer. Maybe if they get another starter, he would move to the pen, but who knows, knowing the situation up there they would probably screw with it and go with the committee again.
I think he'll wind up closing in a couple weeks. Pedro will be able to pitch 5-6 innings next time, and will be at full strength the start after that probably. Lowe is coming around. Wakefield pitched last night and showed no ill effects of his injury. They still have Burkett, and they called up Rupe to take Fossum's spot in the rotation, so they really don't need him in the rotation, even more so if they sign Finley.
I think their bullpen is worse than their starting rotation right now and Lyon is terrible and they need someone to close games. Unless they are able to win out over the Yankees in the Urbina sweepstakes, they will use Kim as a closer.
If they get Benitez, but that's by no means sure either. Assuming the Yankees get Urbina, the Giants and Cards are also interested in Benitez, so they might get neither of them.
With Izzy back, are the Cards really gonna shell out top prospects for a guy who isn't as good? I think the Benitez talk was if Izzy didn't come back successfully.
