K. Wood and the rest of the year...

Postby magus » Tue Aug 02, 2005 11:52 pm

So, with Wood coming off the disabled list, but starting out in the bullpen, what can we possibly expect from this guy? I don't want to drop him, but I'm not sure what his prospects are like for the rest of the year. Do you think he'll make it back to the rotation by September, or is his season almost over?

I'm in the hopes that he will get some holds for me in my points league...but in terms of starting, I don't know if they're going to go back to that route. It seems like whenever they do, bad things happen!!! I'm not expecting him to close either, but hopefully he'll be a set-up guy. I'm not sure of anything though...
If you can help:

Thanks!!!

Dempster was relatively automatic until yesterday, where he gave up 4 (?!) straight walks. If you have him or he's on your wire, it's not a bad gamble to get Wood and see if he becomes a closer. But I think that's his high point, since it's obvious the Cubs don't want to keep him starting and risk further damaging that shoulder.

Basically, Wood becomes a sort of Ugueth Urbina.. you hang onto him and his shakiness based on the mere point that he might close soon. Blah.

Wood is basically value-less now. Barely worth a roster spot on the hopes that at some point he may close or get his starters job back and actually be able topitch effectively. At this point, I would say he is a complete bust and if you can get anything decent in a trade, I would do so.

I saw Kerry last night in Peoria. He pitched really well against Single A competition. His ball had good movement. I think we all know how good he is when he's healthy. He just can't stay healthy. I'd love to see the Cubs get rid of him.

I actually cut him a few days ago in one league. Needed the roster spot and couldn't gamble that maybe he would wind up the closer, or maybe get back in the rotation toward the end of the year.
