Felix worth getting in non-keeper leagues?

Postby BostonBK7 » Tue Aug 02, 2005 9:30 pm

I have the #1 waiver pick but I was wondering if it was worth picking up Felix Hernandez in my league if its non-keeper. Any thoughts?

I think it be fairly deep beneficial, in leagues with like 14 teams or more. I think only 12 teamers if you need K's and can stand the growing pains effecting your ERA and WHIP.

I doubt he'll have much value in a redraft league but there probably won't be many call-ups with more upside. So I would definitely take a flier on him with the #1 and hope to strike gold.

Maine has a good swing for a pitcher but on anything that moves, he has no chance. And if it's a fastball, it has to be up in the zone. Basically, the pitcher has to hit his bat. - Mike Pelfrey

I agree -- I suspect he'll have an experience like Rich Harden did when he was called up. Some great games out of the gate. Then hitters will catch on. He'll flounder for awhile and eventually learn to pitch at an elte level.

I'm in first and need to protect my WHIP and ERA. So I'll pass. But if I were deeper in the division, I'd certainly roll the dice.

I think he's worth the flyer. His K's will still be around 8/per9 if you ask me. He's got nasty stuff, and bigleaguers won't be used to seeing him.

Wonder how pitching his slider in th bigs will effect his pitchcount? I know he wasn't supposed to throw it in the minors because of the torque it can have on a pitcher's elbow.

The fact that he plays for the Mariners greatly reduces his value.

i think its worth the risk in a non-keeper league, he has more potential than any other pitcher from free agency.

Well that's just like, your opinion man.

He's probably better than your worst starter, so sure, why not? Not like there's going to be anybody capable of more available in FA, more than likely.
