One down year does not a washed up fantasy career make. Beltran may not be a top 12 pick next year, but he will be taken in the first 3 rounds. There are more than enough guys who have undererformed during their first year in NY. Beltran is a legit talent.
Having said that, I realized that he is on the borderline of being a 4th fantasy outfielder currently.
However, there is just too much talent to let him slide too far down next year.
There's too much talent in the league to let him go too high next year. The guy has talent and has put up some sick fantasy numbers but if you don't think he'll run next year (And I don't) he becomes an average outfielder who hits .285, 30hr (tops), and 90rbi and steals maybe 15 bases. That's a 4th round pick or worse. I can get better numbers from a lot of outfielders. Off the top of my head? Jason Bay, Jose Guillen, Carlos Lee, Jim Edmonds, Miguel Cabrera, Manny Ramirez, Gary Sheffield, Hideki Matsui, Vlad, Abreu, Andruw Jones, Carl Crawford, Griffey, Cliff Floyd, Vernon Wells, Aubrey Huff etc... There's 16 outfielders I'd rather have than Beltran. There are probably more.
EDIT: I forgot Lance Berkman and just for grins I'd rather have Delmon Young and he hasn't even had a major league AB yet.
