Expectations for Nomar?

Postby BobbyRoberto » Mon Aug 01, 2005 2:10 am

Will he be useful at all for the rest of the season?
Roger Angell: I was talking with Bob Gibson and I said: 'Are you always this competitive?' He said: 'Oh, I think so. I got a three-year old daughter, and I've played about 500 games of tic-tac-toe with her and she hasn't beat me yet.'

I hope so. I've kept him on my DL for so long it would be nice to get some value from him. Where do you think he will bat in the lineup? His value would rise if he hit in the 2 or 5 spot either just before or just after Lee and Ramirez.

What tier of shortstops would he fall in, for the rest of this season? What shortstops would he be comparable to?

M. Tejada
M. Young
J. Peralta
F. Lopez
B. Crosby
D. Jeter
C. Guillen
R. Furcal
J. Rollins
E. Renteria
Etc....

I don't think we'll know for sure till he's been back for a few games. I would keep my expectations low, at least at first, but that's just me.

I don't believe he'll get enough playing time to make much of a difference for a couple weeks yet. Dusty will baby him and platoon him with Neifi for the first few weeks I would bet. Unless Ramirez gets worse and has to go DL and Neifi moves over there.

My expectations are low simply based on how Piazza did a couple of years ago after coming back from a similar injury. I think his first few weeks back will be slow, with sporadic PT. If he doesn't reinjure himself (since he didn't have the surgery), then maybe for the last 4-5 weeks, you'll have someone who can help out.

My expectations are very low. He was putrid this season before he got hurt and now he's back from a serious injury.
