If the Cubs were smart they would have went after Pierre. Lawton? Come on Gerut is so much younger and has more potential. I picked the Cubs to win it all this year (BoSox did it). I just don't like this move at all.

Of course you do...anytime the Pirates trade with the Cubs we get hosed.

Obviously this wasn't a seller's market as much as it was made out to be. That and the fact that Littlefield is a terrible dealer. He probably wanted Pie for Lawton, and now we get this. Just another bench player for any other team that becomes a starter for the Pirates...makes sense.

I Like Gerut a lot, lets face it Pitt wasn't going anywhere anytime soon. When Gerut is healthy he's very good. Pirates make a big step toward the furture with this trade.

He probably will, though I like Hairston at the position more, he has more speed and they bat about the same average.

I would think Hairston stays in CF, Lawton from what I've read is not very good defensively and doesn't have the great range necessary to play CF.

Yes I believe his contract was somewhere around 8million.

I don't think the Marlins were willing to trade Pierre. I didn't hear much at all about him being on the market, if he was I'm sure Hendry would have gone for him. I like Gerut, I defended him when we traded Dubois for him. But he's not healthy this year and the Cubs are trying to win this year. It gives them a guy with an OBP top 20 in the NL. He should score plenty of runs with Lee and Aramis behind him. I just don't see what there isn't to like about this deal.
