Foppert isn't close to being the prospect he was pre-TJS. Velocity hasn't returned, command is absent. As for Torrealba, he's a dime a dozen backup C. Big deal.

I think this is a very nice move by Sabean, and yet another ridiculous maneuver by Bavasi. Talk about a guy who has a job only because of his family name...sheesh.

FWIW Winn is 25th among LF in VORP. 164 overall.

as a giants fan I think that this is horrible. just plain disgusting. I have no idea what is going through sabean's head, in the past 2 months he's traded away 4 good young players for 2 nothings. i think that torrealba shouldve been starting 3 years ago and we will soon come to regret not keeping him, and foppert is a good young pitcher as well. winn is another lighthitting centerfielder, which we have 2 of already. he gives us neither power nor pitching, the 2 things that we need most. this also will largely hamper ellison's progress among other things. i see no point in yet again trading away the farm for a feeble attempt at a playoff run that in the BEST CASE will result in a first round loss. I think that sabean needs to give it up and start building for the future, and this (and the hawkins trade) are the complete opposite of that. Winn only has an option for next year so unless they resign him they only get him for a year and a half. :-t :-t :-t :-t

so if randy winn goes 3-18-7 .275 the rest of the way will that make a difference to the giants ? i think it is a lose-lose trade for both sides

as a mariners fan i like the deal because torealba can be our catcher till clement is ready and there is still a chance we get the old foppert back. Winn had to go we dont have space for him and now can get another prospect in left.

Sabean is one of the worst GMs in baseball in fact i am going to say right now that i could do a better job than he could if i had his job
