Winn Traded to the Giants

I'd love to hear the Giants fans take on this. Foppert and Torrealba for Winn? Really?

I know Foppert had the TJ done but he's still a high-end arm and should have fetched a lot more than Randy Winn.

He hasn't been the same high end arm since 2003 when he was hurt. He really has no control now and sits right around 90, not mid 90's where he used to.

I still doesn't make much sense for the Giants, but Fopperts value right now was/is pretty low.

I guess that's to be expected after the surgery. I just figured they could get a lot more than Winn, whether Foppert's not the same as he once was or not.

me thinks theres something up with Foppert, he's not the same he once was... Winn is a solid, speedy OF'er .. the Giants made out great here

It's clear that he's been benefitting from Bonds all these years. One year he is hurt, the team is terrible.

as a giants fan, I'm thinking that there is probably going to be another trade after this, either dealing Winn or another OF in a package deal. We currently have 6 OF: Feliz, Winn, Ellison, Tucker, Alou, Sanchez and 7 if Barry returns this year. It was clear from the beginning of the year that the Giants were only playing for this year and the next. I assume this move is for next year as an outfield of Barry, Moises and Randy is pretty good.

I'm not all that upset about losing Foppert and Yorvit. Foppert was considered a top prospect awhile ago, but something happened to his supposed velocity and ever since, from what I saw, he's been nothing more than an average player. Yorvit was a below average bat, decent arm and defense and had some speed for a catcher. I dont think that the player we called up to replace him (Haad) will do much worse than him. Plus Matheny was starting almost everyday anyway.

So overall, eh...I'm not excited or depressed. I'm just hoping Sabean deals one of these outfielders for a starter.

Well they traded away pitchers with potential, for mostly just 1 year stop gaps that they knew where mainly just about average. IMO that's just not good value, the players they traded for haven't helped in any way really.
