Nevin to start at Catcher tonight!

If Nevin takes over catching duties, he will get more days off than normal. Though it shouldnt matter if he only catches when lefties throw. Catching would definitely help his value but the guy is very injury prone. Catching will not help this problem. I just dont see the guy ending up as a top 5 catcher if he becomes Catcher available. He definitely has the potential to be a top 5 cather offensively but considering how he has looked at the plate this year, I will be very surprised to see him any higher than LoDuca in the catching standings at the end of the season. He definitely gains value in leagues with more than 10 teams since he would be a good option for those without a top 9-10 ranked (Zaun/Barrett) catcher.

No problem guys. I heard it on the radio this afternoon and thought I would share it with the Cafe. I heard it on 570am in the LA market, but it was from Hacksaw who used to be on 690am in SD. I hate Hacksaw, but its the only station I get a clear reception from at work.

For all this posting, do we even know if Bochy said that Nevin would continue to catch for the time being?

Just heard Bochie(sp?) on Rome and he said Nevin will catch more, but that he knows he can't put him out there day after day after not catching for years. Said that the Pads will try to get a backup type catcher to fill in.

He said Fick got warn down after catching some games this season. Said its too demanding to just come in and catch after not doing it for a while. I think Nevin will get 5 starts at least though, which will give him eligability at C next year, correct? At least in Yahoo.

I believe it's 15 games for eligibility next year, 5 for this year.

if he is still in the lineup (playing first) when he is not catching, then he is worth a roster spot.

if he is rested against right-handers, then he is almost a waste of roster space.....IMHO.

but since the manager came out last week and said that if he did not get traded, he would see his playing time reduced....I am going with the latter....

:-t

if you need a catcher that plays 3 games a week, then phil could be your guy....
