I've read in the Post on Thursday that Gene Micheal and Stump Merrill were some of the voices who'd felt Thompson was not capable of playing CF. I trust Micheal's evaluation almost 100% however, I hope he's wrong this time with Thompson. But there is no questioning that he has the potential to play ball well.

The Yankees latest minor league experiment may have them promoting Triple-A centerfielder Kevin Thompson.
With the Randy Winn trade rumors fading(and Tony Womack back in centerfield), it is looking less likely that Yankees will get an upgrade from outside the organization. Thompson, who played in the ''Futures Game'' at the All-Star Game earlier this month, is hitting .329 with 13 homers, 53 RBI and 35 steals between Double-A and Triple-A. His stats sort of look like a young Bernie Williams when he was a rookie in the Yanks system. However, I think Bernie's average wasn;t so great in the minors, if I remember correctly. Anyway I agree it's only a matter of time for him.
