I'd say that The Biggest Bust has to be looked at like the MVP Award.....the MVP goes to the player who helps his team the most and is very valuable to them. So The Biggest Bust has to be someone who affect their fantasy team so much that they are not in the playoff race. This is very common of a team that chose Beltran, I know that there are tons of exceptions, but I don't think any other players that were draftd top 5 performed that poorly besides Carlos.
Using the MVP logic works for hurt players as well. I know lots of teams that fell out of contention b/c of a hurt Bonds, Nomar, Rolen, Thome, Benitez etc.
I have Beltran on both of my teams and am in 2nd place in both. Hardly out of contention. Granted he was a keeper and not a draft pick and I had tempered expectations going to Shea from Funron (would've been happy w/ 25-30 like he's done the past n years.) That's my arguement w/ Beltran. Not saying he'd be my #1 pick next year, just not my biggest bust.
Agree that Patterson should get some breakout love. As should Bedard.
All good calls, esp. D. Lee. For a breakout though, I'd like to add Zack Duke. I know he hasn't had much in terms of long term exposure but he's looking like the next top tier pitcher so far. For many who didn't follow him through his draft, that seems like a pretty big breakout.
Thome has to be the biggest bust, he has done absoultry nothing & he has give u all of it, horrible when he has played, a handful of homers, a avg hoverin around the mendoza line, & to top it off, a few Dl stints
Beltran is bad but at least hes doing some thing, Rolen is good to but hes been good when healthy,
Brian Roberts, D Lee have broken out in a BIG way, they have jumped up 5-6 rds for next year.
