Patterson denied that the Cubs had ever tried to shorten his swing before his recent demotion, surprising manager Dusty Baker with his comments, the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
Baker said that the Cubs had done nothing but try to shorten Patterson's swing in their three years in Chicago, just as former hitting coach Jeff Pentland had worked toward that same goal with Patterson in manager Don Baylor's 2-1/2 years in charge. This is but another sign that Patterson and the Cubs are at a disconnect right now, and it wouldn't surprise us to see him dealt before the trade deadline.
