eaton to pen?

Jul 23: ESPN.com reports the San Diego Padres have a need to acquire another starting pitcher because SP Adam Eaton (elbow) is likely headed to the bullpen due to elbow soreness. Due to the elbow pain, he cannot throw his curveball.

anyone heard anything else about this? this sounds like it would be for the rest of the season.

I could have sworn i read recently that he was going to be coming back soon(next couple of weeks), and that this would bring the Padres back to near full strength. I certainly hope he's not heading to the pen, as i really need another strong starter.

Eaton's been on my DL so long, I'm about to give up on hoping he'll come back and do well. Going to the bullpen would be a major bummer. Then again, he was pitching over his head, with a 9-2 record despite a 3.42 ERA AND 1.38 WHIP. Plus, the Padres were very hot in May and haven't been that good since, so Eaton wasn't likely to get the wins he got earlier in the year. Even if he came back and joined the rotation, I wouldn't be blinded by that 9-2 record.
Roger Angell: I was talking with Bob Gibson and I said: 'Are you always this competitive?' He said: 'Oh, I think so. I got a three-year old daughter, and I've played about 500 games of tic-tac-toe with her and she hasn't beat me yet.'

I don't see any point in holding Eaton if there's another DL'er to be had. He's got dicey value as a starter if he does return to that role, and no apparent value in the bullpen. Not like he'll be closing, lol.

If there any kind of roster reserves to work with in your league I wouldn’t drop him unless it was official he was going to the pen.

How many waiver players out there in your league really have as much upside to work with as Eaton has shown?

If you need immediate production I guess you have to. If your just trying to solidify your team and build depth I’d hang onto him.

He's a talented pitcher I'd leave in my DL spots if at all possible, until I hear that he's officially bullpen bound. He was having a very nice season until his last start, where his WHIP shot up a nice amount. I heard he had already been having problems with his health by the time that start came around and that may have contributed to that poor outing.
