1) Maybe he doesn't like the guy Bush is nominating for the Supreme Court?

2) Maybe he doesn't get along with newly-acquired Preston Wilson?

3) Maybe he just can't possibly watch Cristian Guzman suck so mightily for even one more day?

I'm leaning toward option 3.

Maybe its an ego thing.

I think this is pretty accurate and that was the first thing I thought of as well. This reminded me of the Running Back from Varsity Blues.

I agree with this. He's the #1 starter but isn't getting any love for what he's done and having to pitch with his knee isn't helping. Not to mention, he signed a 3 year $22M contract and now he's effectively underpaid after the salary explosion for starters last offseason.

So, they work him hard, give him little love for doing so, and pay him below market. I can see why he'd be annoyed.
