Why no Save for Koch?

Postby Guest » Wed Jun 11, 2003 7:13 am

Looked at stat lines from last night and he was not credited with a save. Pitched 2/3 of an inning, finished the game, gave up a run, but came in with a 3 run lead and Sox won by two. I would think this would qualify as a save. Anybody?

Credit a pitcher with a save when he meets all three of the following conditions: (1) He is the finishing pitcher in a game won by his club; and (2) He is not the winning pitcher; and (3) He qualifies under one of the following conditions: (a) He enters the game with a lead of no more than three runs and pitches for at least one inning; or (b) He enters the game, regardless of the count, with the potential tying run either on base, or at bat, or on deck (that is, the potential tying run is either already on base or is one of the first two batsmen he faces); or (c) He pitches effectively for at least three innings. No more than one save may be credited in each game.

1 is okay, 2 also, but he only had 2/3 of an inning and the potential tying run only came up after he gave up the run!

All Koch did for me last night was inflate my team ERA. He turned in another crappy outing and a 13-something ERA. I'd drop him in a nanosecond, if I had better closers

Can I use this topic to ask WTF is going on at CWS?

Manuel,Marte,Koch - I've read the usual stuff, but does anyone have anything to add - especially regarding the future of any of them?
