Urbina has the most experience closing but he has struggled lately. Maybe Madsen would close? I don't see them making a move if they are still hanging around by the end of the month.
IF Wags gets traded, I see Madson getting the job simply because he's younger and is a KEY prospect to the Phils. However, I am almost 90% sure he won't get traded.
I think it's safe to assume that Wagner will be traded soon and Urbina will close. I don't see how Philly can keep Billy after some of his comments this season. He's clearly not happy, he's not helping the team, they have a suitable replacement, and if they trade him they'll get something pretty good in return.
If I'm Ed Wade, I'd trade him in an instant. Of course, if I'm Ed Wade, I've probably had a lobotomy, so there's no telling what I'd do.
Its Urbina easily. He has experience closing. Has Urbina ever bombed as the closer? I know he has had his rough stretches in middle relief but I remember him excelling as the closer for Baltimore, Boston, Montreal, and Texas.
I believe the Phillies like Madson for his ability to eat up innings in middle relief too much to consider using him as the closer. Someone has to eat up those long relief innings and Madson does a fine job of it.
"Son we would like to keep you around here but were trying to win a pennant this year."
