Winn to Yankees?

According to the Seattle Times, the Yankees have resumed their interest in Randy Winn.

If traded, does he play full-time or platoon? Think he will hit 2nd or 9th?

I thought he was a LFer not a true CF.

Onto the other question, there is absolutely no chance he hits 2nd. Cano owns that spot. Nothing in the top 5 of that lineup is going to change. 9th is where he'd hit.

Winn has been a successful #2 hitter ALOT longer than Cano. Plus he has much better plate discipline not to mention better wheels. I would not be suprised if Winn batted 2nd quite a bit if not always IF he gets traded to the Yanks.

I'd have to agree with this. You can't tell me NY would rather bat the rookie 2nd if they had a bona fide #2 hitter on the team. Winn has been very good in that spot for a few years. He moves guys over and can certainly run when given the opportunity.

I hated him in CF at Safeco. He just wasn't great out there and he doesn't have that great of an arm. However, it may be easier to play CF at Yankee Stadium than at Safeco, I don't know. Probably less ground to cover there. He was a successful CF before he came to Seattle though, so it's doable. The biggest thing in Seattle is that we were used to Cammy, and Winn is no Cammy.

He won't. Cano has earned the spot and he's hitting over .300. He's got just as good numbers as Winn does in 28 fewer games. Cano won't be moved down for Winn. Trust me.


As for CF at Yankee Stadium its very difficult to play. Awful sun and the Left Center gap is huge. With Matsui a total spaz out there and Sheffield not having the best range, the Yanks need someone who can chase everything down.

I haven't watched Randy enough to know if he could do that.

Maybe the M's can through in Jeff Nelson so he can have a 37th tour of duty with the Yankees.

M's have been looking to deal Winn for awhile. He is not that great a player though he is not terrible either. He has an 06 option for 3.75 M, so he is not a particularly attractive rental as the Yanks would not want him longterm imo...

a 273 avg/730 OPS 5 Hrs/33 rbis is not particularly good.

I would think a mid-level prospect and salary relief is about all the Ms could get for someone like Winn.
