Reds recalled outfielder Austin Kearns from Triple-A Louisville. But will he play? Kearns hit .342/.407/.685 in 28 games for Louisville, and Wily Mo Pena has slumped of late. We doubt Kearns will get regular playing time, but he should be picked up in NL-only leagues. Not only is this bad news for Pena, but it also hurts Rich Aurilia, as there will be less outfield time available for Ryan Freel. Jul. 20 - 4:26 pm et

The Reds expect Kearns to arrive in Cincinnati during tonight's home game with the Chicago Cubs, which starts at 7:10 p.m. Kearns batted .342 with seven home runs and 21 RBI in 28 games for Louisville. The 25-year-old outfielder was batting .224 for the Reds when they sent him down.
Also rejoining the Reds will be infielder-outfielder Ryan Freel, following a rehabilitation assignment in Class double-A Chattanooga. He had been placed on the disabled list June 25 with an injured toe.
The Reds also said today that outfielder Kenny Kelly was claimed off waivers by the Washington Nationals and that infielder Anderson Machado was claimed by the Colorado Rockies.[/url]
