Is Johnny Damon ever going to turn things around?

Postby c0rey254 » Wed Jun 11, 2003 12:48 am

He's batting .239, but he has had very good seasons in the past. Is now the time to trade for him? My team does need steals and I could probably get him very cheap since the owner who has him in my league is not starting him.

Depends on what you have to give up to get him. I have guys on my bench that are also playing below expectations, but I'm not willing to get rid of them for cheap. If he knows that Damon has been much better in previous seasons, he'll probably be less willing to deal with him.

Plus, there's a certain attachment you develop to the all stars that are sucking it up on your bench. You want to wait them out through their troubles so you can reap the benefits of them doing well later on it the season. Its that way for me at least.

You might as well hang on to him, because I just finally dropped him after having him on my bench the entire season.

This of course means that he will begin making a huge comeback almost immediately.

No, no. Don't thank me :)

For those who doubt the sheer power of my fantasy baseball jinx, I give you Damon's stats for the day (through 7 innings):

4 for 5
3 RBIs
2 Runs

I should really start offering my services for a fee :)

Well, mostly because my outfield is incredibly deep and I'm already way ahead in stolen bases anyway, so Damon became sort of redundant for me. The season long slump was just the icing on the cake.

I do still get a chuckle out of my fantasy jinx though, even if I didn't care fantasy wise whether he turned it around or not. Being a Red Sox fan I'm glad to do my part for the team. I should draft Fossum and then drop him, just to help out :)

Thanks for being so utterly charming though. You're a real champ.

Add my to the list of people who dropped him before yesterday. I don't really care though; I can pick him up again if he starts to heat up. My league is slow like that.

Add me to the list of managers who don't give a shit about Johnny Damon.
