Every year there are a few players that I avoid like the plague in my drafts and let someone else deal with. Generally speaking they are guys who are past their prime, poised for a bust season, have lost their game, play in the wrong situation, injury risks, problem players, etc...
I know it's easy to say that every player has value at a certain position of a draft but given the position that some guys will likely be at on the majority of depth charts I feel like there are certain guys who will always have a better option when it comes to next year's draft.
What are some names you are avoiding next year no matter what?
A few of mine that I think are sucker picks who I'm black-balling:
Bagwell
Sosa
Gagne
Dotel
Lowell
Jaret Wright
Kaz Matsui
Bret Boone
Steve Finley
Keith Foulke . I think I would rather gamble on Jose Lima.
Aaron Boone
Randy Johnson
Those are three that are high on my NOT to draft list. Or even own list
Gagne I'd still draft if he's the closer. He had a freak injury, put him in rehab and you never know. I'll avoid:
Pierre
Chavez
Thome? If he's there in one of the last rounds I could see myself picking him up, otherwise no.
Reyes
Boone
Lowell
Foulke possibly but I'd rather find a better closer.
Guys, it's July. Are you telling me if past great performers like Thome, Foulke, etc. don't have great second halfs--or great Septembers, as the case may be--you won't draft him?
This thread should be more along the lines of "who should you only draft if they slip a ways."
Saying you'd draft Lima over Foulke is, well, stupid. If Foulke slips and I'm deciding between him and mid-tier closers, you easily go with Foulke. Easily.
Foulke, until this year, it seems has six straight years or so of era under 3.00 and is consistently been one of the leagues best relievers. One year doesn't change that.
Similar cases can be made for Thome, Gagne, etc.

i agree with you pedantic.....
plus this thread probably needs to be brought back up in early october, as there are several guys now that i question,,,, but if they have awesome 2nd halves,,,, my opinion would definitely change........
