Put a boxer on that list, and I'll vote him. Easily the sport that requires the most athletic ability. I seem to remember ESPN grading the hardest sports, and boxing was #1.

I agree with you here on this one, but I would still say LeBron is the best athlete in the world, pretty easily.

I don't think that's what athletic means though. Those are specific sports skills.

Athletic is not about sports IMO. Its speed, stamina and strength- pure physical attributes.

The guy that best possesses those attributes is Lance.

IF the question were who could best play any other sport, you may be right, but that's not what the question is.
.....if we agree that strength speed and endurance is the definition of athlete then shaq wins the strength portion lance wins the stamina and the speed is open to discussion...i can only cite the references in armstrong's book in which he says the only other sport he showed a modicum of interest or skill is bowling...i doubt he wins a footrace w/either tiger or shaq..the race car driver ..who knows ?!

I disagree, for now. That would put him on the Jordan level, even though there isn't the competition right now. I'm not ready to do that just yet.

Yes doctor, I am sick.
Sick of those who are spineless.
Sick of those who feel self-entitled.
Sick of those who are hypocrites.

The best athlete I've ever seen, by far. Tecmo Bowl or otherwise.

You want a pole? Try this one...

Jim Brown
Bo Jackson
Jim Thorpe
Lance Armstrong
Carl Lewis
Wilt Chamberlain
Michael Jordan
Danny Ainge

Those are the best male athletes of all time IMO, In order. (I'm sure I forgot someone and probably short changed several guys from back in the day).

I know he shouldn't be on this list but Julius Peppers is quite the athlete. He was playing basketball and football at North Carolina and he could have been drafting for either, but he chose football. He's the best at what he does and he probably could be good at playing basketball too.

Maybe it's just cause I like the Panthers.. :-b

This is my first year following the Tour and I was blown away by how demanding it actually is. For those doubting whether or not Lance Armstrong requires coordination, agility, etc., I have to ask if you every watched the various events? I have no idea whether or not Armstrong is the best athlete on this list but I think it's crazy to doubt him as an athlete saying that all you need to win the Tour is great physical conditioning. That's rubbish. Every cyclist in the Tour is in top physical condition.

And Blankman, I'm no fan of Nascar but I'm not sure how you can say those guys aren't athletes. Their coordination and endurance skills are on par with any athletes in the world. They undergo tremendous physical strain for 3-4 hours straight and doing it in incredible heat. On top of that every time they go through a turn (nearly half the race) they have to fight off the G-Force which takes alot of strength.

Maine has a good swing for a pitcher but on anything that moves, he has no chance. And if it's a fastball, it has to be up in the zone. Basically, the pitcher has to hit his bat. - Mike Pelfrey
