The guy has been an injury disaster the last few years and this elbow thing is so recurring I'd be shocked if he ever becomes a productive closer again. Even when he's pitched, can anyone really remember the last time they relied on Percy to get saves consistently without giving up the preverbial gopher ball?
2004 2nd half, he was one of the best closers in the game notching 18 SVs, with a 1.67 ERA and 0.93 WHIP.
2003 1st half he was one of the best closers in the game, racking up 20 SVs with a 2.48 ERA and 0.83 WHIP.
In 2002, he was one of baseball's best closers all year period. With a 1.92 ERA and 1.12 ERA he amassed 40 SVs.
So he clearly is still an effective closer since as soon as just last season if you catch him at the right time. He's frustrating at times, but you can ride him when he's on.
