Update (Page 3): Yankees to acquire Shawn Chacon?

Postby daullaz » Thu Jul 14, 2005 2:25 pm

According to ESPN Insider...

ESPN Insider wrote:The Rockies aren't done dealing yet. According to the Denver Post, the team is moving forward on a trade that would send Shawn Chacon to the Yankees for a minor-leaguer capable of contributing next season. Chacon has made just one start since returning from a hamstring injury, and will likely have to prove his health before a deal goes through.

This is ridiculous. Chacon is freaking awful. He's been garbage his entire career. And now the Yankees are considering trading decent talent for him? I'd rather keep Wayne Franklin and Jason Anderson than trade a prospect for Shawn Chacon.

I posted this over in the NYY forum this morning. Going from Colorado to the AL East...? Talk about out of the frying pan and into the fire. :-o

hmmm... i can imagine the chants from the bleacher creatues:

"choke" chacon... (repeat)
Give a man a fish and he'll eat for a day, teach a man to fish and he'll drown because you forgot to teach him to swim.

Usually around this time of season when you hear the words Yankees and trade used together, a big name is sure to follow. This season it's quite the opposite: Jay Payton, Eric Byrnes, Shawn Chacon? :-?

Guess most people have assumed Cano and Wang (maybe Duncan and Hughes to a degree) are untouchable and therefore the Yankees won't be making any "big moves". Can't say that's such a terrible move either, all biases aside.

Let me get this out of the way now, before somebody tells me he'll get better when he moves out of Coors.

Shawn Chacon 3 year splits:

Home:
162.1 IP
11-12
18 Saves (23 Opps)
5.82 ERA
.271 OBA

Away:
157.1 IP
6-16
17 Saves (21 Opps)
5.21 ERA
.246 OBA

Not to mention he's making 2.35 million.

The guy is so terrible. I want to punch someone in the face just thinking about this trade happening.

Here's a question: what would his role be?

I would think the best situation would be to put him in the pen in maybe the 7th before Gordon and Mo.

Asking him to start is asking for trouble, IMO.

7th inning already belongs to Sturtze.

I'd imagine he'd start until Brown is back and then move to the bullpen. Just a joke of a trade. God I'm sick just thinking about it.
