Adam Eaton (finger) is about two weeks away from returning.
Phil Nevin and Mark Loretta should be back any day now, and Eaton should be good to go in a couple weeks, putting the first-place Padres back at nearly full strength and in the driver's seat in the West.
Eaton (strained middle finger) played catch on Thursday without pain and will throw in the bullpen on Saturday, the team's official web site reports. If all goes well he'll then throw a simulated game and then go on a minor league rehab stint.
He's still several weeks away from returning as a result, but at least he is showing progress.
Adam Eaton received a second cortisone shot in the middle finger of his right hand.
He needed the cortisone because he felt pain while throwing in Saturday's bullpen session. He was supposed to throw off a mound tomorrow, but that's been scratched and he's out indefinitely. He hasn't pitched since June 15 and there are legitimate concerns that he might not be back this year. It probably depends on if the cortisone shot works or not.
ESPN.com reports the San Diego Padres have a need to acquire another starting pitcher because SP Adam Eaton (elbow) is likely headed to the bullpen due to elbow soreness. Due to the elbow pain, he cannot throw his curveball.
