Is Manny a HOFer?

I was having a discussion with my friend yesterday about Manny and the HOF (It actually got pretty funny in which Trot to the HOF came up ). He's a huge Manny fan and he thinks he is an absolute lock to be in the Hall but I'm thinking he needs a few more good years. To his defense, Manny has not put up 30+ HR's and 100 RBI's once in ten years and well on his way to topping that this year.

Manny's stats are incredible with a .314 avg 412 hr's 1350 rbi's but i'm sure there are players with those stats that aren't in the Hall. My feeling is that he needs to reach 500 homers to be a lock, what do you guys think about this?

Yes. Espcecially if he continues his current pace for a few more years. He's been one of the most consistently productive hitters in our generation IMO.

two more years at his current rate, and i say yes. i'm not a red sox fan in the least, but that dude deserves it. he's so clutch it's sick, and his season numbers are def. right up there. plus, he reminds me of some of the characters in MLB during the '70s. total throwback to the goofballs who used to play the game with intensity and joy.

He's in with a couple more great seasons, I think. In this day and age of bloated offensive numbers, he's one of the best run-producers around, which says a lot. I think yeah, he needs 500 homers to get in, but he should have that by the end of the 2008 season, no sweat. But I'd be shocked if Manuel Aristides Ramirez Onelcida didn't have an HOF plaque a decade from now.

IMO, it's moot because he's going to get 500 homers and will be a definate HoFer anyway. He's one of the greatest hitters of our generation.

Agreed. He's a lock. The grand slam record will help, too.

agreed. HOF consideration involves your numbers, but also how you compared / how you were considered while you played (assuming you played long enough). the second measure may be why some players with great stats just never crack in. but manny's been one of the top 5 premier run producers in baseball for a good 5-7+ years. so with his stats... he may not be roger dodger lock, but it's close.

Additionally, with Manny, most in-know baseballers add to his gaudy totals - he's always worn out good pitching as well as bad.

This is unique for his generation and is worth noting in the quality of the big runs he's produced (don't forget WS MVP!)
